100% Raw Foodist – Day 15

Day 15 and I am feeling GREAT. My favorite thing about the raw food diet is that it only keeps getting BETTER.  With every passing day I feel more grateful, satisfied and fulfilled. It never ends. How would you like to live a life in which it only gets better with every passing day? Try it out for 30 days. What do you have to lose? Stick it out, survive the 30 days and if you decide you don’t like it, just go back to your old diet.

Sometimes I have so much energy that I don’t know what to do with it and I get a little anxious. I think it’s a good thing, though. It means that I will be able to do SO MUCH MORE in one day that I typically would have. I have to find more things to do. More exercise. Maybe I’ll finally start that garden I never had time for. Read a few more books a week. Start yoga. The possibilities are ENDLESS!

Think about it. How much more successful would you be if all of a sudden you had 10 times the energy you have now? What would you want to accomplish in your life? Is there anything you have always dreamed about pursuing, learning, doing that you couldn’t before because at the end of the day, you just didn’t have the energy for it? Get on the raw diet and start crossing off your goals. Get them off your list and make it a reality!

Let’s start off on the right foot. Start your day with a green smoothie!

BREAKFAST

YumYum Super Smoothie

  • 6 dandelion leaves
  • 8 beet leaves
  • 2 fuji apples
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 2 cups water

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smoothie. There you go, you just made a HIGHLY NUTRITIOUS GREEN SMOOTHIE that will give you incredible amounts of energy. You’re welcome!

Transition ProTip: If you’re having a hard time staying on a 100% raw food diet, just focus on drinking one green smoothie (about 1 liter) a day every morning. Continue with your typical diet, or at least try to eat healthier, cooked versions of what you’re eating. You can always improve. Stay away from things like fast food, highly processed foods, etc.  Drinking a green smoothie every day will make your transition SO MUCH EASIER. Eventually your body will start to crave healthier foods on it’s own just by drinking the green smoothies. Give it a chance. It’s OK to experience bumps in the road. It’s all part of the transition. Don’t be so hard on yourself. :P

LUNCH & DINNER

OK, so we made another strawberry pie for lunch/dinner tonight.  This is the pie from Steve Pavlina’s site, but we changed the recipe for the crust this time around. It’s a crust recipe that Katrina made about a year ago that I think is such a great alternative to just the nut/date base that’s so common in the raw food world. I think our version tastes a little more like actual pie crust.

Edited Strawberry Pie Recipe

Katrina’s Pie Crust

  • 1 cup organic rolled oats (ground)
  • 1 1/2 cups raw buckwheat groats (ground)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar

Fruit Filling

  • 6 cups of fresh fruit such as blueberries, strawberries, cherries, peaches, apples, etc.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup dates (soaked about 10 minutes)

Directions for the pie crust: Just go ahead and put all ingredients in the food processor and use the S blade. Once it is mixed well (it should look doughy), put in a 9 inch pie pan and create the crust.

Directions for the fruit filling: Cut the strawberries into small chunks (cutting into fourths is a good size). Place 4 cups of the chopped strawberries on the pie crust evenly. Take 2 cups of the strawberries, the 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and the soaked dates (without the water) and blend in a blender until smooth. Now pour the delicious smelling strawberry date lemon juice dressing on the strawberries on the pie crust and TA DAHHHH!!! A very delicious strawberry raw pie.

Pro Tip: Put the pie in the refrigerator and don’t eat until the next day (or a few hours later). Let it sit. The strawberries will become sweeter, less tart and will taste SO MUCH BETTER.

However, the above step is not necessary and the pie can be eaten right after it is made (like we did tonight). YUM!

By the way, does anyone have any requests for a raw dish?

We are taking requests! I want to know what people would like us to make. I just had an e-mail request tonight for a cheese sauce. We’ve made one before when we attempted to make a raw pizza, but I’m going to have to dig up a recipe or just find an excellent one online somewhere. I’m sure I can find one. We’ll test it out, improve it if needed and present it here.

So, let us know if you have a craving for something! We’ll try the best we can to make it into a raw dish.

Much love!

    Hi Maggie!

There aren’t any pros or cons, but there are a few differences. A green juice will be digested much faster and easier than a green smoothie, but the smoothie contains fiber that will help detox. The insoluble fiber in a green smoothie is really helpful for absorbing many times it’s own size in toxins and pushing them out. So the juice will assimilate much faster and easier giving you quick, light nutrients. The smoothie, on the other hand, will release the nutrients at a slower pace, but with the added benefits of cleaning and detoxing.
