I woke up today filled with gratitude and deep love.
I realized that I can decide what kind of day I will have within the first five minutes I wake up in the morning (or whenever I end up waking up).
From the moment I wake up each morning, I direct my first thoughts to thoughts of gratitude, love and appreciation. When I first started this habit, I blocked out any negative thoughts or emotions. Any negative thoughts about things that happened the day before or during the week are blocked out. Instead, I only think about the wonderful things in my life.
This morning I thought about the love of my life, Katrina. I thought about how grateful I was to always wake up next to her each morning, how she’s always there for me and how she makes me so genuinely happy. I also thought about books and how excited I was to be able to wake up and spend my day reading and learning about the things I’m passionate about. Next, I remembered the night before and how I had spent such an exciting and loving time with my friends watching Christmas movies and spending some time at the Magical Forest. There are so many awesome things in my life and they can easily go unnoticed if I don’t take the time to really appreciate them.
So this has been a new habit I have decided to incorporate into my life. It works wonders. I wake up in a good mood almost every morning (I’m still working to perfect it, of course!). It really does set the mood for the rest of my day. I think it’s very important to start things off well from the beginning because otherwise I’ll just suffer a negative chain of events. Have you ever experienced that? You wake up one morning and you trip getting out from the bed. You curse at having tripped, get upset, and the next thing you know anything that happens from then on is “added on top” of the stress you have already created for yourself. On the other hand, if you wake up with thoughts full of love and gratitude, tripping out of bed wouldn’t be a big deal. Anything else that would happen after that could be dealt with easily because you are already full of gratitude for the bigger things in life. The little things don’t get you down so much anymore because they’ll seem so small and insignificant now.
I’m all about incorporating new habits. Changing habits has become somewhat of an obsession with me after I realized that I could literally change anything about myself. I don’t believe that “I was just born that way” or “it’s a family trait” and it cannot be changed. Anything is changeable. I believe I am constantly on a journey of creating who I now choose to be. That is the wonderful thing about life. If something is no longer working for you, change it. Improve it. Be who you now want to be.
Do whatever makes you happy and the rest will always fall into place. Change is always, ALWAYS a good thing no matter what. If change appears to not be “good”, change your perspective of it. Instead of focusing on the reasons why it appears to be a “bad” change, focus your thoughts on why it is good instead. How many new doors have opened up now? What is now possible with the new change that wasn’t possible before? There is always good in everything. Always.
YAY for wonderful things!
Much love!
